Built-Up Roofing (BUR)
Built-Up Roofing (BUR) in Texas
A built-up roof is assembled on the roof itself, layer by layer. Alternating layers of bitumen and reinforcing felts or fabrics are built up into one thick membrane, which is often finished with gravel or another surfacing to protect it from the sun.
Problems tend to show up as blisters and splits in the layers, worn or displaced surfacing that leaves the membrane exposed, and cracked flashing where the roof meets walls, curbs and edges. Drainage matters too, since low spots that hold water are often where the surface breaks down first.
Repairs are made by cutting out or cleaning the damaged area, building new layers over it and restoring the surfacing. We also install, replace and inspect built-up roofs.
