Stone-coated steel starts as steel sheet that's formed into panels and coated with stone granules bonded to the surface. The panels are pressed into profiles that resemble shake, tile or shingle, so each panel covers the area of several individual pieces.

The details aren't the same from one manufacturer to the next. Profile, color, fastening and whether the panels sit on battens or directly on the roof deck all vary, and a repair panel has to match all of them.

Common repairs include panels bent by someone walking on them the wrong way, loose fasteners at the overlaps, worn granule coating and flashing at walls, chimneys and valleys. It's used mostly on homes, and we install, replace and repair it.
